How to drain a hot tub with submersible pump?

Necessary tools:

1.  Submersible pump (if the hot tub has been uncleaned for a long time and the water inside the tub is cloudy.)

*Note: ① Choose the right length of cable and measure the distance from the hot tub to the electrical outlet before purchase.

② Pay attention to choosing the right electric power submersible pump.

2.  Garden hose or special sewage hose

Steps:

1. Determine the location:

Determine the location of the drain, usually in the sewer.  (Please make sure to meet the specific requirements of the local government for hot tubs draining into the sewer line, e.g., the water in the hot tub has been chemically treated to be safe and free of contamination.)

2.  Power off:

Turn off the power to the hot tub.

3. Connections:

Connect the hose to the pump. (The hose connection is usually at the top or side of the submersible pump.)

4. Submerge:

Put the pump into the hot tub and sink it into the deepest part of the water as far as possible.

5. Power on:

Plug the pump into the power supply, let the pump start working, and see if the water level starts to fall that has been in normal drainage.

Drainage time:

Depending on the size of the hot tub, it takes about 10 to 20 minutes to drain using a drain pump.

How to Drain a Hot Tub Using a Hose Siphon?

Necessary tools:

Hose (A clear hose is recommended so you can see the progress of the water.)

Steps:

1. Submerging:

Place the entire hose into the hot tub so that it is completely submerged in the hot tub. At this point, the hose in the hot tub will gradually expel air bubbles.  (This is the original air in the hose being expelled, but to make sure that the air in the hose is completely overflowed, you can put your hand deep into the water and gently shake the hose in the water.)

Another quick method: If your hose is very long and thick, and it is difficult to get the whole hose into the hot tub, then I suggest you connect the hose to the faucet, turn on the faucet to fill the hose with water, and then disconnect it and put the filled hose into the hot tub.

2. Pressing:

Reach deep into the hot tub, grab a section of the hose submerged in water, and use your thumb to block the end of the hose.  (make sure that both the hose and your hand are in the water during the whole process)

3. Pull out:

Remove the hand that is holding down the end of the hose and pull the hose out of the hot tub to the sewer.  (Make sure that there is a height difference between the hot tub and the sewer, and that the thumb does not move while pulling out the hose and is always pressing down on the end of the hose.)

4. Release:

Move your thumb away from the end of the hose, keep your hand on the hose, and do not lower it to avoid the hose splashing everywhere.

At this time, the water in the hot tub will gradually flow out of the hose. If you find that the flow stops in the middle, you can check whether the hose in the hot tub is still submerged in the water, and then shake the hose to make it siphon again.  (If the hose opening of the hot tub is exposed and there is still a lot of water in the hot tub, repeat steps 1-3 above.) Drainage time:

Depending on the size of the hot tub, it can take about 1 hour or more.

How to Drain a Hot Tub Using Gravity?

Necessary tools:

Hose

Steps:

1. Pull out:

Find the drain valve at the bottom of the hot tub, usually, when you use it for the first time, the drain valve is tightly closed and embedded in the wall of the hot tub, so you need to use a flat-head screwdriver to pull out the drain valve.

2. Rotate:

Generally, turn counterclockwise to open.

3. Connection:

Connect the hose to the drain valve tightly, and be careful not to pull the hose to damage the drain valve.

4. Drain:

Due to gravity, the water in the hot tub will gradually drain from the drain valve through the hose.

Drainage time:

The time it takes is about 1-2 hours, so if you want to use the hot tub quickly, then you need to schedule the drain time in advance.

How to Drain a Hot Tub with an Automatic Drain System?

Necessary tools:

No tools are required. However, the hot tub needs to have an automatic draining system.

Steps:

Automatic draining is performed by the drain program originally set for the hot tub.

Drainage time:

It takes relatively little time to drain, and the rate of draining depends on the design of the drainage system and the water flow rate.

If draining 20 gallons per minute, a 600-gallon hot tub will drain in approximately 30 minutes, which is greater than or equal to the time it takes to drain a submersible pump.

Analysis

For hot tubs of the same volume, it is obvious that using a submersible pump will be more efficient, taking less time, and leaving less residual water in the tub. Using an automatic drainage system also takes a relatively short time, but the purchase cost of hot tubs equipped with automatic drainage systems will be relatively high. (However, we can provide cost-effective customization of a full range of hot tub parts and accessories, including those with automatic draining systems, at a very competitive price.)Next is using a siphon hose or bathtub bottom drainage valve for drainage.

How to choose a drainage method that works for your hot tub

1.  If your hot tub has a large volume and can be used by 7-8 people, it is recommended to use a larger power submersible pump. Or when you buy a hot tub with an automatic drainage system, consult the sales staff about the configuration of the drainage system to understand the specific drainage efficiency.

2.  If 4-6 people can use your hot tub, it is recommended that you choose a submersible pump that does not have to be too powerful or purchase a hot tub with a normal automatic draining effect. Of course, if you don’t mind the draining time is too long, you can also hose siphon drain or gravity drain, just need to arrange the draining time in advance.

3.  If your hot tub can be used by 2-3 people and the volume of the hot tub is not too large, the most convenient way to drain the hot tub is to siphon it from the hose and gravity drain it so that you don’t need to buy an additional submersible pump and it takes about an hour to drain the hot tub. Of course, if you still need to drain efficiently, you can choose a low-power submersible pump for drainage.
